THE AV-8 FOR MAF - credit photo to fadzlee marzukee

while there are still certain group of people were talking that the AV-8 is a scandal within the defence industries due to its skyrocketing cost that is not supposed to occur and suspicions of corruption and cronyism within the deals itself, many failed to notice that the program involves DEFTECH owning intellectual property rights on the vehicle systems and sub systems.

This is what was done during the advent of Proton where the Saga was made based on technology and expertise provided by Mitsubishi, and among others gave Proton the right to intellectual right and production of the car itself. That what started Proton in the first place.

After many complaints by users and improvement made by the national auto industry itself, Proton is now where it should be, a Malaysian pride that is at least on the par with other regional car maker

(noted that i drive a Honda...but my observations on from years to year on Proton from the Wira generation to Preve shows a lot has been done and a lot has been spent to make Proton what it is now and where it should be in the future...test the car yourself to believe..there are shortcomings but then it is not what it was during the Wira and Iswara era..)

Back to AV-8

Like Proton...many local OEM will be created through direct and indirect foreign investment during the duration of development...local companies that is related to the programme will flourish while exsisting local companies will try to have a share of the development...creating more jobs opportunities. This is evident when they sets up their factory in Tanjung Malim and Shah Alam where it was once a sleepy hollow but had turned into modern municipalities with public infrastructures and businesses.

Job opportunities are not only available within local companies and foreign investors investing in the programme but also locals who resides around the area where DEFTECH is operating will also share the same spillover of the programme indirectly. More indirect business opportunities in terms of small and medium enterprises (i.e food stalls...kedai runcits...workshops to name a few) will be created through this programme.

This is the economy of scale that is being created by this programme. Killing it will spell the end of opportunities for local residents in terms of businesses and jobs.

Apart from that, collaborations made by DEFTECH and their technology partners and principal OEM will enchance competencies in project management, supply chain management particularly defence business process as well as system engineering amongst others.

The programme are directly and indirectly spurs and enhance our Malaysian economy.

On additional note....the 257 AV-8 will be made locally and will come in 12 variants. There are possibilities that additional orders of the AV-8 will follow but until now the clear order are the first 257 units....plus AV-8 is also a part of the Future Soldier system for MAF standard infantry battalion where network centric coordination between fighting forces on the ground are intergrated giving our troops full combat awareness and effectiveness.

Currently the prototype made by DEFTECH are still involve in ongoing trials by MAF..followed by the future soldier programme.

However...on another note...

we must not took our eyes off the programme especially this should be monitored closely by SPRM where...i had to say...DEFTECH had to maintain its credibility as key defence industry player in this nation.

We cannot deny 100 percent that there could be a misconduct which related to corruptions where it had occurs in the past...still...what i am really against is making the program another political mileage to win votes which is being done now by certain quarters...and what i am saddened is that even MAF and DEFTECH are keeping silent...not giving any press con or any clear facts that could smash them buggers silent...

A second NGPV scandals is what we should avert and AV-8 should not be it....accountability should be uphold by those involved where this is a national security concern.

I know and my stance is clear as many others who follow our nation defence development where we are against any corruptions, breach of trust and fund mismanagement of any kind...and we do hope that the industrial players are clear cut on this...

The government should also took a very stern action to any personnel known to involve in any misconduct...making it an example to others and this should be done and made known to the public.

AV-8 is a nation defence industry leap of technological advancement in many ways but as what myself and other fellow Malaysians wanted is that this should not become another Skyhawks or NGPV again....
